Guevara is a Syrian Kurdish photographer and documentary filmmaker based in Berlin, started her career in Damascus 2005.
Her photography exhibition in Berlin “Existing Elsewhere” is held in Berlin for Oct 2020. Guevara was selected for an art residency
in Tapís De La Fundacio, Barcelona 2017 as part of photographer Susan Meiselas exhibition AKA Kurdistan, also she was selected
by Magnum foundation for Photography and Social Justice Fellows 2018. Currently working on her first photography book as a curator
and editor “Dialogue with Absence”.
Her film “Morning Fears, Night Chants” co-directed with Diana El-Jeiroudi premiered at IDFA 2012 and was broadcasted on Alarabiya
and ARTE (2013) and worked as line producer of several Syrian documentary films, such as “Return to Homs” (2013) and “Silvered Water,
Syria Self-Portrait” (2014). Recently she worked as assistant director with Gianfranco for his film NOTTURNO, primered at Venice main
competition 2020, as research with Hogir Hirori on his film SABAYA ALHOL, primered at Sundance competition 2020 and produced “The
Other Side Of The River” by Antonia Kilian. Guevara is developing her second documentary as director.
Namer is a co-founder and board member of DOX BOX e.V based in Berlin association to support documentary filmmakers from the Arab world.
Her position at DOX BOX from 2014 to 2017 was academy manager and community moderator, where she contributed in building the community,
later she worked as research for Mapping Arab Documentary project and previously she used to run the documentary campus of the DOX BOX
International Film Festival Syria.
Guevara is a graduate of the Damascus Applied Arts Institute as a certified photographer and did Drama Studies at the Higher Institute Dramatic Arts in Damascus.
